Katie Beale

Katie has worked within the ecological consultancy sector for over 10 years. She has worked on a range of high profile large infrastructure projects as well as smaller residential and conservation projects. Katie has been survey and team lead for detection dog surveys and is an active member of the Ecology Detection Dog Working Group of Britain and Ireland. She has created and provided training to others on the use of digital data systems and GIS within the ecology sector. She has also lead training through Batability on the uses of detection dogs within the ecology sector. Katie can switch between project manager, detection dog handler or ecologist as the job requires and enjoys a mixture of field and desk-based work.

  • Project and team management and co-ordination - including data collection, resourcing, training, quality assurance and health & safety.

  • ​Ecological fieldwork - survey design, data collection, management and reporting to UK CIEEM standards. Survey skills for Habitats (UK-hab, Phase 1, NVC), Dormice, GCN, Bats (PBRA, emergence/re-entry, transect, internal assessments, radio-tracking), Badger, Otter, Water vole, Reptiles, ECoW, Breeding & Wintering birds. 

  • Detection dogs - accredited dog handler, site co-ordination and search preparation, team quality assurance, protected species knowledge, development of search methodologies and implementation of efficiency trials.

  • Ecological Analysis & Reporting - PEAs, impact assessments, EIA, EcIA, HRA, BNG, GIS, management plans, reporting and GIS spatial analysis. 

Phil Beale

Often working in the background, assisting with technology support and lending a hand in detection dog training, but he also offers experience and knowledge in zoology and marine biology. As a diver for over 15 years, and woking as a marine mammal observer in New Zealand, Phil offers marine survey techniques to Nature's Rest portfolio of services.
